DELAND, Fla. — After inclement weather postponed Thursday night's matchup, Stetson women's soccer returned to the Athletic Training Center Friday morning to face FIU. The Hatters battled through the rescheduled contest but fell 3-0 to the Panthers, while putting together a strong defensive effort in the second half.
FIU scored twice early in the first half to take a 2-0 lead. The Hatters generated three shots before the break, including two from
Eva McCoy, while
Clare Boesel made three saves to keep Stetson within reach. FIU added another goal at the 45:00 mark, sending the Hatters into halftime trailing 3-0.
The Hatters responded with a strong defensive effort coming out of the break, keeping FIU off the scoreboard throughout the second half.
Danica Wittmann made one save in the final 45 minutes.
Stetson continued to look for opportunities offensively, putting together its best attacking stretch between the 68th and 76th minutes. Ava McKay,
Kamryn Wilson and
Payton Quinones each recorded a shot during the stretch, while Quinones finished with two shots on the morning. Despite the late push, FIU held on for the 3-0 victory.
