BOCA RATON, Fla. — Stetson volleyball fell to Florida Atlantic, 3–0, on Friday at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena, with set scores of 17–25, 9–25 and 16–25. The Hatters finished with 24 kills and five total blocks, including three from
Kayla Balfour.
Stetson stayed within striking distance early in the opening set before Florida Atlantic used a four-point run to turn a 12–8 advantage into a 16–8 lead.
Andrea Diaz Dominguez answered with a kill, while
Sofia Torcello later helped the Hatters put together a four-point stretch that included a kill and two Florida Atlantic attack errors. The Owls closed out the set, 25–17.
The Hatters faced an early deficit in the second set as Florida Atlantic turned a 1–1 tie into a 13–2 advantage. Stetson continued to compete behind kills from
Vanessa Shevchenko, Diaz Dominguez,
Keely Starnes and
Karsu Bayraktar, but Stetson dropped the set, 25–9.
Stetson responded in the third set, overcoming an early 5–0 deficit to pull within 9–7. Diaz Dominguez and
Soraya Teston provided kills during the run, and the Hatters remained within striking distance at 15–12 after a Diaz Dominguez kill from
Maia Pou. Florida Atlantic pulled away late to close out the set, 25–16.
