DELAND, Fla. — Stetson women's soccer controlled much of the match Sunday afternoon but could not find the back of the net, falling 1-0 to Queens at the Stetson Athletic Training Center. The Hatters finished with a 15-3 advantage in shots and held a 9-1 edge in the second half.
Stetson created several opportunities throughout the match, finishing with five shots on goal.
Ava Mckay led the Hatters with four shots, including three on frame, while
Eva McCoy added two shots and one shot on goal.
The Hatters applied pressure midway through the first half, putting together an eight-minute stretch that produced four shots between the 24th and 33rd minutes. Stetson continued to push for the opening goal, but Queens broke through late in the half when Avery Miller converted a penalty kick at 43:23 to give the Royals a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Stetson came out aggressively in the second half, generating nine shots and earning five corner kicks while searching for the equalizer.
Amelia Majtczak and McKay each struck the crossbar early in the half as the Hatters continued to create dangerous opportunities.
The Hatters kept the pressure on throughout the closing minutes, with Protiva making saves on attempts from McKay, McCoy and
Bianca Mazzaferro. Stetson continued to push forward, but Queens kept the Hatters off the scoresheet to secure the 1-0 result.
