DELAND, Fla. — Stetson volleyball returns to DeLand for its ASUN home opener against West Florida at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, before hosting Queens at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, for Kids Club Day.

Scouting the Hatters
Stetson enters the weekend with a 4-8 overall record and a 0-1 mark in conference play after falling to FGCU in three sets.

Freshman Andrea Diaz Dominguez continues to lead the Hatters offensively following an impressive start to her collegiate career. Diaz Dominguez has totaled 104 kills and 123.0 points this season while leading Stetson in kills, points and service aces. She has also recorded three double-doubles.

Jannelize Perez has anchored the Stetson defense with 158 digs while averaging 3.76 digs per set.

The Hatters have also received a strong presence at the net from freshman Sofia Torcello and senior Kayla Balfour. Balfour leads the team with 39 total blocks, while Torcello has recorded 32. Torcello opened her collegiate career with seven blocks against FIU and followed with another seven-block performance against Merrimack. Balfour recorded a season-high eight blocks against FIU and is averaging one block per set.

Vanessa Shevchenko and Maia Pou have shared the setting duties throughout the season. Shevchenko has totaled 165 assists, 77 digs and 47 kills, while Pou has added 152 assists and seven service aces. Pou recorded a career-high 25 assists in Stetson's win over Alabama State earlier this season.

As a team, Stetson has recorded 439 kills through 43 sets, averaging 10.2 kills per set while hitting .169. The Hatters are also averaging 9.5 assists, 14.0 digs and 2.1 blocks per set.

Scouting the Opponents

West Florida
West Florida enters the weekend with a 9-2 overall record and a 1-0 mark in conference play after sweeping Queens in three sets last weekend.

The Argonauts have spread the offensive workload between Kumara Flanagain, Emily Breazeale and Talya Sampson. Flanagain leads the team with 97 kills, followed by Breazeale with 91 and Sampson with 89. West Florida has also used two setters, with Karyna Werley totaling 173 assists and Gabi Moulton adding 164.

Defensively, Maddie Mire leads the Argonauts with 156 digs while averaging 3.8 per set. Camryn Brooks is the other West Florida player with more than 100 digs. At the net, Delaney Hanowell leads the conference with 61 blocks.
As a team, West Florida has recorded 543 kills while hitting .233. The Argonauts are averaging 13.2 kills, 12.0 assists, 15.3 digs and 2.5 blocks per set.

Queens
Queens enters the weekend with a 4-10 overall record and a 0-1 mark in ASUN play after falling to West Florida in three sets. The Royals will travel to FGCU on Friday before making their way to DeLand.

Emma Norris leads Queens offensively with 159 kills, followed by Elizabeth Layson with 131 and Callie DeSchryver with 129. Marlee Cook has orchestrated the offense with 223 assists this season.

Defensively, DeSchryver leads the team with 144 digs, while Destiney Wiggins is the other Royal with more than 100 digs with 107. At the net, Layni Tobias holds the team lead with 34 blocks, followed closely by Norris with 32.

As a team, Queens has tallied 619 kills across 53 sets while hitting .174. The Royals are averaging 11.7 kills, 10.6 assists, 14.4 digs and 1.5 blocks per set.

Series History
Friday's matchup marks the first all-time meeting between Stetson and West Florida. Sunday's showdown will be the eighth meeting between Stetson and Queens, with the Hatters looking to even the all-time series.
