Spencer Phillips joined the Stetson Athletics family in August, 2016, after spending two years at Florida International University as a Graduate Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach. He assists head strength coach Mark Wateska in all aspects of strength & conditioning for Hatters Athletics teams.
Phillips oversees the strength & conditioning program for the Hatters' men's basketball program as well as beach volleyball, indoor volleyball, softball, men's soccer, men's tennis, men's golf and men's rowing.
While at FIU, in addition to completing his Master of Science degree in Physical Education in May, Phillips worked with the Panthers’ football, swimming & diving, track & field, cross country and men’s and women’s soccer teams.Â
Prior to his arrival at FIU, Phillips worked in the Indiana University strength program as an intern then graduate assistant intern coach from January 2011 until March 2014. While at Indiana, Phillips worked with 20 of the Hoosiers’ athletic teams including a National Championship and Big Ten Champion men’s soccer team, Big Ten Champion and College World Series baseball team and CWPA Champion Women’s water polo team. Phillips also worked with a multitude of Big Ten and national champions in swimming & diving and track & field. Phillips has former athletes currently playing in the NFL, MLB, MLS and NASL.
It was at Indiana where Phillips first worked with Wateska.
An Indianapolis native, Phillips received his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Indiana University with a concentration in fitness specialty and coaching in 2013. He is CPR and AED certified and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength Coaches Association.
