DeLand, Fla. - Two second-half goals helped to lift Stetson women's soccer past LaSalle 2-0 for its first win of the season Sunday afternoon at the Stetson Soccer Field.
The game marks the first meeting between the two teams. The Hatters improve to 1-3 on the season while the Explorers fall to 1-2.
Junior Jessica Spencer (Daytona Beach, Fla.) got on board for Stetson first as she took a ball from senior Noelle Tyre (Jacksonville, Fla.) after an attempt by freshman Heather Berg (Ft. Myers, Fla.). Berg's ball went over the goalkeeper and into the box and Tyre pushed the ball to Spencer who tapped it in for the eventual gamewinner at 62:31.
Spencer then dished a ball to freshman Emily Ware (St. Petersburg, Fla.) who hit the back of the net in the lower left corner at 81:59 for her first career goal to give the Hatters the 2-0 lead.
Senior April Eilering (Troy, Ill.) recorded her first shutout of the season in goal for the Hatters, 21st of her career. Eilering, who is the career leader in shutouts at Stetson, also grabbed four saves in 90 minutes.
Lauren Malizia suffered the loss in net, allowing two goals while notching five saves in 90 minutes.
For the match, the Hatters outshot the Explorers 11-8.
Stetson will play again Tuesday as it host a makeup match against South Florida at 7 p.m.
