(Gainesville, Fla.) -- The Stetson women's tennis team ran into the #2-ranked team in the country and were unable to escape with a point, as the Florida Gators handed the Hatters a 7-0 defeat Thursday evening. 

Florida rolled out three nationally ranked singles players and the #14 doubles team in the country.  Florida swept all six singles matches and the three doubles competitions to win their season opener. 

Freshman Breanna Atkinson put up the toughest fight for Stetson in the #2 singles competition.  She dropped the first set to #95 Megan Alexander, 6-4 before bowing out in the second set, 6-2.  Also falling to ranked opponents were Virginia Galbarini to #11 Diana Srebrovic and Katherine Nowicki to #78 Whitney Benik. 

The Hatters return home Sunday, February 4 against Florida Gulf Coast in a 12 p.m. match at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
