TAMPA, Fla. — Stetson's Yuki Mizuguchi and Camila Maldonado Gutierrez highlighted the Hatters' performance at the Bedford Cup over the weekend, teaming up for a 2-1 record in doubles action at the University of South Florida.

Mizuguchi and Maldonado Gutierrez opened doubles play with a 7-6 (7-3) victory over USF's Josefine Falster and Francesca Miglio. The Stetson duo followed with another win, defeating FIU's Jelena Vico and Sofia Fernandez Figueras, 6-4, to advance to the later stages of the top doubles flight.

The Hatters' duo ultimately fell to North Florida's Gabby Goyins and Aryana Bartlett, 6-3, in the next round.

Mizuguchi also competed in singles action throughout the weekend, facing opponents from Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast and Florida State. She pushed Florida State's Okhtenberg to a deciding super tiebreak, responding to a 6-0 opening-set loss with a 6-4 second-set victory before falling 10-8 in the tiebreak.

The Bedford Cup marked another opportunity for the Hatters to gain valuable fall-season experience against competition from throughout the region.
