The Stetson men's team dropped a heartbreaker Sunday night in game two of the soccer doubleheader in Jacksonville.
In a game that went back and forth all night, the Hatters and the Dolphins were evenly matched. In the first half the teams tied in shots at 5-5. The Dolphins held a slight 7-6 advantage in the second.
The lone goal of the game came at 37:25 when Jacksonville's Anton Axelsson scored one-on-one after being sent in by Ramak Niakan Safi and Austin Earl.
The Hatters offensive efforts were led by junior midfielder Kirk LaBusch (Brandon, Fla.) who had four shots, two of which were on goal. Senior midfielder Victor Webb (Birmingham, England) had three shots, freshman Eugene Starikov (Palm Harbor, Fla.) had two. Senior Gabe Shibley (Titusville, Fla.) and sophomore Griffin Gilstrap (Safety Harbor, Fla.) each managed one shot.
Senior goalkeeper Evan White (Surrey, British Columbia) faced 12 shots and was credited with four saves.
The loss drops the Hatters' record to 7-4-0 overall and 3-2-0 in conference play. Stetson will return home Friday, October 19 and host Belmont University at 7:00 p.m.
