Hatters Tie For Second at DeBary Intercollegiate Invitational

Women's Golf Stetson University

Hatters Tie For Second at DeBary Intercollegiate Invitational

DeBary, Fla. ? Sophomore Danielle Jackson (Seminole, Fla./Northside Christian HS) tied for third place overall to lead the Stetson women's golf team to a tie for second place in the team standings at the DeBary Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by Winthrop University.  Hatter sophomore Lauren Darnell (Gainesville, Fla./Gainesville HS) also recorded a top five finish.

Jackson was tied for the lead with Winthrop's Jutta Degerman after the tournament's first day with a one over-par 73 before shooting 76 today to tie for third, three shots behind medalist Kimberly Wong of Bethune-Cookman.  Darnell, on the other hand, made up for an opening 81 by firing a 73 of her own today, the second-lowest score of any player in the second round, to tie for fifth place at +10.

Junior Christine Fraser (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) tied for 22nd with rounds of 76-85=161 (+17) while freshman Alex Banham (Peterborough, England) put up 78-85 to tie for 29th at +19.  Sophomore Lauren Bryan (Valparaiso, Ind.) carded 83-82 (+21) to tie for 35th place while junior Ashley Kozlowski (Windsor, Conn.) helped the Hatters to their second-place tie with her opening-round 80.  She shot 87 today to finish +23 for the tournament.

A trio of Hatters rounded out the Stetson contingent at the event: senior Meagan Carlucci (Southlake, Texas), sophomore Selina Murallo (Quaker Hill, Conn.) and freshman Lauren Elipoulos (Akron, Ohio).  Carlucci shot 84-85 to tie for 50th place while Murallo carded scores of 84-97 and Elipoulos finished with 88-98.  Conditions on the second day of play were sloppy and difficult in which to score well due to rain showers that moved through the central Florida area.

Stetson's overall score of 626 (+50) was good enough to tie for second with McNeese State, 15 shots behind team champions Bethune-Cookman.  Embry-Riddle and Atlantic Sun foe Jacksonville tied for fourth at +58 while hosts Winthrop came in sixth at +61.  The rest of the field included conference rival Gardner-Webb (+69), Belmont Abbey (+80), Towson (+82), Radford (+84), A-Sun rival Mercer (+86), High Point (+124) and The Citadel (+164).

The Hatters conclude the fall season this Monday-Tuesday, Nov. 5-6 at Victoria Hills Country Club in DeLand at their own Stetson Fall Classic.  36 holes will be played on Monday while the tournament concludes the next day with a single round of 18 holes.
