ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Stetson women's golf team claimed another team title during the fall season on Sunday, finishing five strokes ahead of Bucknell to win the Navy Fall Invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club.
The Hatters posted rounds of +16 and +5 to finish at +21 overall, pulling away from Bucknell (+26) and Howard (+29) to secure the victory.
Individually, Filippa Jansson led the way for Stetson with a second-place finish at 144 (+4), highlighted by a final-round 70 — the lowest score of the day. Sophomore Isaki Sakashita joined her near the top of the leaderboard, placing fourth at 149 (+9) after rounds of 76 and 73.
Ailsa Brannock tied for eighth at 152 (+12), Maggie Potash tied for 16th at 155 (+15), and Elizabeth Eberle tied for 26th at 157 (+17), as all five Hatters finished inside the top 30 and three within the top 10.
The Hatters were once again steady and balanced across the course, averaging the fewest strokes of any team on both Par 3s and Par 4s. Their 114 pars led the field, paced by Sakashita's 29, while their 21 birdies ranked second only to Howard. Jansson's nine birdies were the most by any player in the tournament.
Under the direction of head coach Teresa Brown, Stetson now looks ahead to the Edisto Island Invitational as they'll conclude their fall schedule at The Plantation Course at Edisto in Edisto Beach, S.C., on Oct. 27-28.
