The Stetson men's soccer team completed its 2007 season with a 2-0 loss to Campbell University in the Atlantic Sun Conference semifinal on Thursday night in DeLand.
Â
Much like this season's first match up between the two teams on September 29, the Hatters controlled most of the game, led in shots (13-7), and yet could not score a goal.
Â
Campbell opened the scoring at 44:51 when Vince Petrasso launched a shot at the goal from 30 yards out that seemed to fool goalkeeper Evan White. White thought the shot was going to sail over the crossbar, yet it dropped and passed just below.
Â
Twenty minutes into the second half Campbell's second tally came off the head of a Stetson defender who was trying to steer the ball wide of the goal mouth. The unfortunate "own goal" energized the Fighting Camels and gave them the momentum they needed to hold on for the victory.
Â
Six Hatters managed shots, while just two (Tanner Wolfe-3, Robert Hodge-1) could get their shots on goal.
Â
Although a disappointing end to the 2007 campaign, the Hatters had a great season finishing with an 11-5-2 record. It was the seventh time in the history of the program the team won ten or more games. The Hatter fans were proud of their team and proud of the five seniors (Tanner Wolfe, Victor Webb, Gabe Shibly, Jake Feltner, and Alex Leone) who were on hand for the final game of their college careers.
