(Jacksonville, Fla.) ? Nationally-ranked Florida State defeated the Stetson women's tennis team 7-0 Saturday afternoon.  Though FSU swept the day's matches, several Hatters turned in strong performances.

Valentina Galbarina continued to play well in the #1 singles slot for Stetson.  She put up perhaps the Hatters stiffest competition of the day before falling to Nicola Slater, 7-5, 6-4.

“Florida State is very strong this season, and we competed well today against tough opponents at every position,” said head coach Sasha Schmid.  “Valentina played especially well this weekend.”

Breanna Atkinson fell to #58 Lauren McFarlane, 6-3, 6-4 in the #2 competition and Catherine Canady moved up the #4 spot where she dropped a tough 6-1, 7-6 decision to Carolin Walter.

“I continue to see this team improve,” said Schmid.  “We need to stay focused and work hard.”

The Hatters next host Gardner-Webb Saturday morning at 11:00a.m. as they try for their first conference win.
