(DeLand, Fla.) ? The Stetson women's tennis team evened their conference record at 2-2 with a 5-2 win over Belmont Sunday afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. Valentina Galbarina cruised through her #1 singles and also claimed a doubles victory to lead the Hatters.
Galbarina breezed through her singles match, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Linda Johansson. She earlier paired with Katherine Nowicki for an 8-4 win in the #1 doubles match, leading Stetson to a doubles sweep.
“It was really good for our team to win the doubles point with a sweep,” head coach Sasha Schmid said. “It was the first time this year we had won at all three doubles positions this season. Valentina had a great day with a win at #1 doubles and a terrific win at #1 singles against a good opponent.”
Anna Leonenko, Catherine Canady and Daniella Palmiotto also earned singles wins. Canady and Leonenko notched an 8-5 win in the #2 doubles position while Katherine St. Clair and Breanna Atkinson teamed up for an 8-2 victory in the #3 match.
The Hatters will next finish up their match with UNC-Greensboro on Monday at 4:00 p.m. The match began on Saturday but was postponed due to rain. Stetson will then host Campbell in an A-Sun match-up on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
