(DeLand, Fla.) ? The Stetson women's tennis team posted a crucial 5-2 win against Atlantic Sun Conference foe Campbell Wednesday afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. The Hatters moved to 3-1 in conference play, while Campbell dropped to 3-2.
Stetson (5-7) took the doubles point by winning two of three matches. Katherine St. Clair and Breanna Atkinson won the clincher 8-6 in the #3 competition. It was their third straight doubles win.
“It was great for us to win the doubles point today,” head coach Sasha Schmid said. “It took the pressure off us heading into singles play.”
Anna Leonenko won her fifth straight match with a 7-5, 6-1 defeat of Iva Stoujancev in the #3 singles competition.
Liza Bensimon and Tanya Ahuja were winners for Campbell (10-3) in the #4 and #6 singles matches.
Valentina Galbarina, Breanna Atkinson, and Catherine Canady were also winners for the Hatters. Galbarina improved her record to 7-4, playing exclusively at the #1 position.
“They played well today and showed a lot of determination,” Schmid said. “This was an important conference win for our team.”
The Hatters next host ETSU Friday at 11:00 AM in a rematch of last year's A-Sun Tournament Final.
