(DeLand, Fla.) ? The Hatters men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought one-nil game to the University of South Florida Sunday night at the Stetson Soccer Complex. The teams traded control of the pitch for a scoreless first half of play with Stetson out shooting the Bulls 7-6.
Both squads continued their relentless back and forth play in the second half until fortune went the way of the Bulls. At 63:46 Junior Kevon Neaves hit a brilliant left-footed cross from 50-feet that found Junior Joris Claessens in a crowded goalmouth. Claessens reacted quickly with a one-timer past Hatter goalkeeper Evan White.
With a one-goal advantage the USF focused on defending the Hatters attack. The remainder of the second half featured long runs, hard tackles, and missed opportunities.
In the end the Bulls posted a 13-12 advantage in shots. There were 35 total fouls called and four yellow cards (two for each team) handed out by the referee.
The loss dropped Stetson's record to 1-1-0 for the season, South Florida moved to 2-0-0. The Hatters will return to action Thursday, September 6 when they travel to Boca Raton to take on Florida Atlantic University at 7:00 p.m..
