SUNSET BEACH, N.C. ? The Stetson men's golf squad notched a 10-over par 298 and is currently in a tie for 15th place with South Carolina State following day one at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate in Sunset Beach, N.C.
Sophomore Dave McAndrew (T28th) led the way for the Hatters with an even-par 72 while teammate Thomas Parker recorded a 73, good for a tie in the 41st slot. Senior Kris Stewart finished four-over par and in a tie for 68th place, and rounding out the team were red-shirt freshman Matt Pitts and senior Steve Neidermire. Pitts and Neidermire each notched a 77 as both are tied for 74th position.
Host Elon (279) is leading the tournament by one over Bethune-Cookman (280). Elon's Steve Dressel is the leader following Friday's action shooting a five-under on the par-72 course. The course was ripe for the picking as 27 players finished under par.
Day two action in Sunset Beach will continue on Saturday, Sept. 22.
