Pinehurst, N.C. ? Sophomore Danielle Jackson (Seminole, Fla.) tied for 16th place individually to lead the Stetson women's golf team at the Pinehurst Challenge early this week. The Hatters tied for 14th place in a 22-team field at the par-72 Pinehurst #8 layout.
Jackson was the only Hatter to break 80 in all three rounds at the historic golf resort, which has hosted a pair of U.S. Opens in addition to numerous other USGA championships. She shot rounds of 79-74-77 to finish +14 for the tournament, tied for 16th overall in the 113-golfer field with six other players.
Junior Ashley Kozlowski (Windsor, Conn.) shot 79-77-80 to tie for 37th place at 20 over par. Junior Christine Fraser (Kingston, Ont.), sophomore Lauren Darnell (Gainesville, Ga.) and senior Meagan Carlucci (Southlake, Texas) also competed for Stetson at the tournament with Fraser's final-round 74 the highlight of the trio.
Stetson finished the tournament with a team score of 952, good for +88 and a tie for 14th place with Jacksonville State. East Carolina won the tournament at 46 over par behind individual runner-up Emelie Lind (75-74-72, + 4), 10 shots clear of A-Sun squad ETSU. The College of Charleston hosted the event and Cougar golfer Steffi Kirchmayr won the medalist title, firing a three under-par round of 69 in the final 18 holes to finish +1 overall.
The Hatters next tee it up at Plantation Inn in Crystal River, Fla. for the Cincinnati Invitational. The tournament runs March 27-29.
