Spartanburg, S.C. ? Freshman Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) won in both her singles and doubles matches but it was not enough as the Stetson women's tennis team (6-7, 4-2 Atlantic Sun) fell 5-2 on the road to conference rival USC Upstate Friday morning. The Spartans improved to 11-2 overall and kept their A-Sun record a spotless 5-0.
Purushotham teamed up with sophomore Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay) for an 8-5 win at #1 doubles over Anna Novo and Emilia Milovanovic and later rallied from a set down to beat Milovanovic at #3 singles by the score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Senior Anna Leonenko (Calgary, Alta.) improved her singles record to 6-1 (4-1 in league play) with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Diana Martinez at the #5 position. Although the other two doubles matches were close, both went the way of the Spartans by 8-6 scores and Stetson's other four singles players went down in straight sets as USC Upstate claimed the victory.
The Hatters travel to Johnson City, Tenn. to take on the ETSU Lady Buccaneers at noon tomorrow.
