Johnson City, Tenn. ? The Stetson women's tennis team (6-8, 4-3 Atlantic Sun) suffered their second conference defeat in as many days in a narrow 4-3 defeat at East Tennessee State (9-5, 4-0 A-Sun) Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Katherine Nowicki (Jacksonville, Fla.) was Stetson's only double winner.
Nowicki defeated Vita Moskaliova at #6 singles by a score of 5-7, 7-6, 10-5 after teaming with classmate Breanna Atkinson (Bradenton, Fla.) to knock off Elena Volobueva and Whitney Trotter 8-5 at #2 doubles.
The Hatters were able to claim the doubles point when sophomore Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay) and freshman Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) also took down Olya Batsula and Yevgeniya Stupak 8-2 at the #1 position.
Freshman Megan Jones (Miramar, Fla.) also picked up a singles win when she won at #4 singles against Andrea Voinea by the score of 2-6, 7-6, 10-7.
Stetson returns to the courts next Sunday when it hosts Florida A&M at 2 p.m. at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
