DeLand, Fla. ? The Stetson women's tennis team (4-4, 3-0 Atlantic Sun) picked up identical 6-1 wins over Atlantic Sun foes Gardner-Webb and Campbell on Thursday and Saturday, respectively, to get back to .500 overall for the season and remain undefeated in A-Sun action. Senior Anna Leonenko (Calgary, Alta.) ran her record to an unblemished 5-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles. Both matches were played at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
The Hatters began Thursday's match against Gardner-Webb with three quick doubles wins in which they dropped just seven games out of 31 overall. Leonenko paired up with sophomore Natalie Gorham (Miami, Fla.) to win 8-3 at #3 doubles.
All five of Stetson's singles wins against the Runnin' Bulldogs came in straight sets with sophomore Breanna Atkinson (Bradenton, Fla.) completely dominating Jenny Gomez at #2 singles 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Megan Jones (Miramar, Fla.) won her #6 match 6-1, 6-2.
Against Campbell on Saturday, the Hatters took two of three doubles matches to claim the point, then won five of the six singles matches. Both Jones and senior Catherine Canady (Jacksonville, Fla.) rallied from a set down to win their matches while sophomore Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay) won at #1 singles in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.
The Hatters are back in action Tuesday when they go on the road to face 40th-ranked Florida International in Miami. The match begins at 2 p.m.
