DeLand, Fla. ? The Stetson women's tennis team (8-8) picked up its second win in as many days with a 5-2 win over visiting Air Force Monday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. The Hatters swept the three doubles matches and won at the top four singles positions to seal the victory.
Sophomores Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Breanna Atkinson (Bradenton, Fla.) along with freshman Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) were double winners. Galbarini and Purushotham beat Meghan Kiser and Sarah Cassman 8-3 at #1 doubles while Atkinson teamed up with sophomore Katherine Nowicki (Jacksonville, Fla.) to win by the same score at #2 doubles over Erika Shortridge and Samantha Sarkis.
Galbarini won her #1 singles match 6-2, 6-4 over Christine Abayan and Atkinson also won in straight sets, dispatching Lauren Wilson 6-0, 6-4 at the #2 position. Purushotham won her #3 singles match in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 over Sarkis.
The Hatters host Mercer at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in the second half of a doubleheader. The Hatter men also take on the Mercer Bears at noon that day at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
