DeLand, Fla. ? The Stetson women's tennis team (9-8, 5-3 Atlantic Sun) won its third consecutive match with a 6-1 victory over visiting conference rival Mercer on Thursday.  The Bears fell to 7-10 overall and 2-5 in A-Sun play.  Senior Anna Leonenko (Calgary, Alta.) posted the most dominating individual effort with a 6-0, 6-0 singles win.

Leonenko controlled her #5 singles match with Karen Bellman from start to finish, winning all 12 games.  Four other Hatters each won in straight sets with one of those sets being a 6-0 sweep in each match.  Sophomores Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Breanna Atkinson (Bradenton, Fla.) along with freshmen Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) and Megan Jones (Miramar, Fla.) all took care of business quickly against the Bears.

The doubles combos of Galbarini/Purushotham and Atkinson/sophomore Katherine Nowicki (Jacksonville, Fla.) quickly obtained the doubles point for Stetson with identical 8-1 wins at the first two positions.  Leonenko and sophomore Natalie Gorham (Miami, Fla.) made it a clean sweep with an 8-6 win at #3 doubles.

Stetson closes out its home schedule with a doubleheader on Saturday, hosting A-Sun foe Kennesaw State at 10 a.m. before taking on non-league opponent Delaware at 5:30 p.m.  Leonenko and classmate Catherine Canady (Jacksonville, Fla.) will be taking the courts at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center for the final time as Hatters.
