Nashville, Tenn. - Alaina Jacobson tossed a two-hit shutout as Lipscomb defeated Stetson 2-0 in an Atlantic Sun conference game Sunday afternoon at Draper Diamond. Stetson then completed its suspended game from Friday with Belmont, falling 8-7 in eight innings.
Despite a 2-0 start to the road trip, the Hatters (29-15, 3-3 A-Sun) completed their weekend in Nashville with a 2-2 mark.
In the first game, a contest that featured a total of just four hits, Lipscomb took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kellie Sirius doubled with one out and later scored on back-to-back wild pitches.
The Lady Bisons (14-19, 6-4 A-Sun) added an insurance run in the sixth on a triple by Lauren Dortwegt and an RBI groundout by Sirius. Jacobson made the lead hold up, allowing just two hits over seven innings while striking out four. She did not allow a hit after the second inning and retired the final 10 batters in a row.
Lindsay Wightman and Leo Carre?o collected the two Stetson hits. Amanda Lindsey (15-10) also only allowed two hits over six innings while striking out seven.
The continuation of the Belmont game picked up in the top of the seventh inning with the game tied 7-7. While neither team scored in the seventh, the Bruins (11-18, 3-7 A-Sun) were able to break through in the bottom of the eighth. Sammi Parks walked with one out. Heather Grossnickle then blooped a single to left and Mandy Stanley walked on four pitches to load the bases. Lindsey entered the game for Stetson in relief of Erica Demers but walked Holly Herman on four straight pitches, forcing in the winning run.
Parks picked up the victory, throwing five scoreless innings of relief while Demers suffered the loss.
Stetson returns home to Patricia Wilson Field to face Mercer at 6 p.m. Friday, April 4 in a doubleheader. The Hatters will also take on Kennesaw State in a doubleheader Sunday at 1 p.m. Live video, audio and live stats are available for all games at www.gohatters.com.
