DeLand, Fla. ? The Stetson softball team (17-8) pulled off a rare tripleheader sweep on Saturday, defeating Presbyterian 5-1 and 2-0 as well as posting a 3-0 win over Liberty in the nightcap of the Hatter Classic at Patricia Wilson Field. The Hatters improved their overall record to 17-8 while extending their winning streak to a season-high four games.
Stetson pitchers Amanda Lindsey (Byhalia, Miss.) and Erica Demers (Miami, Fla.) were brilliant in the circle throughout the day. The duo allowed just one run and seven hits while striking out 23 batters in 21 combined innings of work.
Offensively, junior first baseman Andrea Migliori (Winter Garden, Fla.) went 3-for-7 with a home run - her ninth of the season - and three RBI. Nicole Forbes added three hits and two RBI, while six other Hatters collected two hits a piece. Senior third baseman Lindsay Wightman (Surrey, B.C.) and freshman third baseman Katelyn Perna (St. Petersburg, Fla.) each scored three runs.
In game one against Presbyterian (7-13), Lindsey went the distance, allowing one run and two hits while striking out seven. In the second game against the Blue Hose, Demers tossed a two-hit shutout, also striking out seven. Lindsey returned to the circle against Liberty (2-8-1) in game three, pitching a three-hit shutout while tying a season-high with nine strikeouts. Lindsey improved her record to 9-6 while Demers improved to 8-2.
Stetson has won 11 of its last 14 games and has clamped down defensively of late. In the past seven games, the Hatters have allowed just three runs total (two earned) and the team has posted a 0.29 ERA.
Friday's rain-out meant three games for both Stetson and Presbyterian on Saturday. Liberty defeated Presbyterian 7-0 in the other game not involving the Hatters.
The Hatter Classic concludes Sunday with Liberty vs. Presbyterian at 11 a.m. and Liberty vs. Stetson and 1 p.m. Jamie Bataille will broadcast the action from the tournament with audio and live video available through Hatter Vision on www.gohatters.com, the official online home of Stetson Athletics.
