Jonesborough, Tenn. ? The Stetson women's golf team held onto fourth place after the second round of the Atlantic Sun conference championships today at The Ridges Golf and Country Club. The Hatters, who came into the day also in fourth place in the eight-team field, were led by sophomore Danielle Jackson (Seminole, Fla.) and her seven over par round of 79.
Jackson made pars on her first 10 holes of the day before running into a rough patch over the last eight holes to finish with a 79. Individually she remained in the same tie for 10th place in which she entered the round. Sophomore Lauren Darnell (Gainesville, Ga.) shot 81 and junior Ashley Kozlowski (Windsor, Conn.) added an 82 for the Hatters, who collectively tallied a score of 328 (+40) today to enter the final round at +74 for the tournament.
Junior Christine Fraser (Kingston, Ont.) carded an 86 while freshman Alex Banham (Peterborough, England) struggled after an opening 80, posting a 92 in today's second round.
Hosts East Tennessee State put a near-stranglehold on first place, getting four scores in the 70s to take a commanding 28-stroke lead at +21. Campbell is in second place at +49 with Belmont (+50) hot on the heels of the Camels. Stetson follows in fourth place at 74 over par with Jacksonville (+81), Mercer (+88), Gardner-Webb (+91) and Lipscomb (+110) rounding out the field.
Lorie Warren of the Belmont Bruins, who made a hole-in-one at the par-three seventh in yesterday's opening round, made six birdies in an eight-hole stretch (four in a row at one point) to take the individual lead (+3) by two strokes over ETSU's Natalia Giraldo and Laura Jansone. Warren was the only player in the 40-golfer field to shoot even par or better today. Jansone, the first round leader after an opening 67, shot 82 to fall back to the pack.
