Nashville, Tenn. ? The Stetson women's tennis team improved to 12-8 overall and 7-3 in the Atlantic Sun with a 7-0 road sweep of Belmont on Saturday. The Hatters won every match in straight sets.
Double winners for Stetson included sophomores Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay), Breanna Atkinson (Bradenton, Fla.), seniors Catherine Canady (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Anna Leonenko (Calgary, Alta.) and freshman Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India).
Canady had the quickest match, disposing of Lindsay Bennett 6-2, 6-1 at #6 singles. Galbarini beat Whitnie Warren at the #1 position by a 6-2, 6-2 score. Freshman Megan Jones (Miramar, Fla.) beat Katie Rhodes 6-2, 6-3 at the #4 slot.
The Galbarini/Purushotham duo and the pairing of Leonenko and sophomore Natalie Gorham (Miami, Fla.) each recorded 8-1 victories in doubles matches to secure that point for Stetson as well.
The Hatters conclude the regular season at 2 p.m. Friday with a non-conference match at UCF. The Atlantic Sun conference championship tournament begins Friday, April 18 in Johnson City, Tenn.
