DeLand, Fla. ? The fourth-ranked Florida Gators handed the Stetson women's tennis team (13-9) a 6-0 loss at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center in the 2008 home finale for the Hatters. Florida, using five players ranked in the national top 125, won every match in straight sets.
The Gators (17-1) were dominant throughout the match, rolling through the doubles portion in just five games more than the minimum 24. In singles play, only Hatter freshman Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India), playing against #106 Megan Alexander, managed to win at least two games in each set, falling 6-2, 6-3.
Today's match marked Florida's second shutout of Stetson this season. The Gators beat the Hatters 7-0 in Stetson's season opener on January 23 in Gainesville.
The Hatters play their final regular season match Friday afternoon at UCF before next weekend's Atlantic Sun championship tournament at ETSU. Stetson will be the #3 seed in the tournament and will face #6 seed Gardner-Webb in the quarterfinals; the Hatters beat the Runnin' Bulldogs 6-1 at home on Feb. 28.
