DeLand, Fla. ? Stetson University Head Volleyball Coach Cheryl Carlson has completed her recruiting class for the 2008 season with the signing of Anna Becker, a junior college transfer who will see time at opposite hitter and libero for the Hatters.
A native of McLean, Illinois, Becker spent the last two years at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, Ill. where she earned All-Region and All-Conference honors. Under Head Coach James Dietz, Becker helped the Loggers record a 36-15 record in 2007 by leading the nation (NJCAA Division II) with 9.4 digs per game.
Becker became the second consecutive LLCC player to lead NJCAA Division II in that category, following her future Hatter teammate, rising senior libero Melanie Boyer (New Holland, Ill.).
Prior to attending Lincoln Land, Becker graduated from Olympia HS in Stanford, Ill. in 2006 after earning All-Conference honors four times at OHS. She also played basketball in ninth grade and was on the high honor roll throughout her high school career.
The daughter of Pam and David Becker will be a junior at Stetson this fall and intends to major in Business.
Stetson finished the 2007 season 11-15 overall and 4-7 in Atlantic Sun Conference play. Boyer and two other starters return from that squad, including kills leader Rebecca Orzechowicz (Miami, Fla.). The 2008 campaign begins August 29 against Bowling Green at the FSU Invitational in Tallahassee; the home opener is September 5 as Stetson hosts the two-day Holiday Inn Invitational. The field includes Robert Morris, Nicholls State, The Citadel and the College of Charleston.
