Gainesville, Fla. ? Host Florida (2-0), the seventh-ranked team in the nation in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason poll, overpowered the Stetson women's tennis team (0-1) on Tuesday by a 6-1 score in the dual match opener for the Hatters. Stetson's only point came as a result of a retirement by a UF player at #5 singles.
The Gator lineup featured three players ranked in the ITA Top 100 and the nation's 18th-ranked doubles duo; they swept the Hatters 8-0 in all three doubles matches and did not drop a set in singles. The most competitive match was at #6 singles where Hatter junior Natalie Gorham (Miami, Fla.) lost 6-4, 6-3 to Barbara Pinterova.
The Hatters are off until next weekend when they head to Charleston, S.C. for a pair of matches. Stetson faces Winthrop at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 7 and host College of Charleston at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, February 8.
