DeLand, Fla. - Four goals in a pair of Stetson conference victories over the weekend earned senior forward Kevin Munz (Jupiter, Fla.) the Atlantic Sun Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Award for October 12, the conference office announced Monday. Munz ranks second on the team with five goals and leads the Hatters (9-1-1, 3-1-0 A-Sun) with five assists on the season. Stetson is ranked eighth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association South Region Poll.
Munz struck twice in a 1:15 span early in the second half Friday evening to lead the Hatters to a 5-1 rout of visiting Lipscomb; his goals boosted a 2-0 halftime lead to an insurmountable 4-0 advantage. Two days later against Belmont, he found the back of the net in the 25th minute and again in the 53rd minute as Stetson bounced the visiting Bruins 2-1.
This is the first career Player of the Week award for Munz and the fourth for a Stetson player this season. Senior forward Griffin Gilstrap (Safety Harbor, Fla.) and senior defender Robert Hodge (Devon, England) swept the awards on September 14 while sophomore goalkeeper Logan Potter (Merritt Island, Fla.) was named Defensive Player of the Week on September 21.
The Hatters, who are off to their hottest start since 1989, are back in action Friday at 7:30 p.m. on the road at A-Sun rival USC Upstate. Stetson is tied for second in the A-Sun standings with nine points, one point behind first place Campbell.
