Daytona Beach, Fla. - Sophomore Sam Ryder (Longwood, Fla.) went low again with a one under par 71 in the second round of the Bethune-Cookman Fall Invitaitonal, but he and the Stetson men's golf team slipped to third place in both races after 36 holes. Ryder is four under par for the tournament and just one stroke off the lead while the Hatters (+4) are four shots behind co-leaders Florida Atlantic and Florida Gulf Coast.
Ryder trails co-leaders Alex Medinis (FGCU) and Ben Silverman (FAU) by a single stroke; Silverman's 65 and Medinis's 66 were the two low scores of the day at LPGA International Legends Course. Junior Gabe Costa (Tequesta, Fla.) shot a 73 for the Hatters while senior Dave McAndrew (Barrington, R.I.) put up a 75; both golfers are tied for ninth place at +2 overall. Redshirt freshman Micah Jacobsen (Fernandina Beach, Fla.) carded a 76 for Stetson's final counting score and is tied for 13th place at +4. Freshman Adam Kipi (Oviedo, Fla.) struggled to an 84 and is tied for 33rd place individually.
The Eagles, Owls and Hatters are comfortably clear of fourth place Jacksonville (+11) with host Bethune-Cookman well back in fifth at 51 over par. Savannah State (+62), North Carolina Central (+86), Winston-Salem State (+107), South Carolina State (+121) and Hampton (+138) round out the field. The tournament concludes tomorrow with a final round of 18 holes.
