DeLand, Fla. ? The Stetson women's tennis team improved to 4-3 on the season with its fourth straight victory, a 6-1 decision over visiting Florida Atlantic (3-9) Saturday morning at the Edmunds Center. Five different Hatters were double winners on the day.
Stetson swept all three doubles matches, including convincing 8-3 victories by the Breanna Atkinson (Bradenton, Fla.) ? Katherine Nowicki (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Shannon Gunning (Boca Raton, Fla.) ? Katherine St. Clair (West Palm Beach, Fla.) pairings.
When the action shifted to singles, the top five players in the Hatter lineup all recorded straight set victories as Stetson cruised away to the match victory. Atkinson, junior Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay) and sophomore Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) all won the second set of their matches in perfect 6-0 fashion.
“FAU presented a good test for us and our kids really rose up to the challenge,” said Head Coach Sasha Schmid.
