Four Hatters were double winners as the Stetson women's tennis team (8-5, 3-1 Atlantic Sun) returned to A-Sun action with an emphatic 7-0 sweep of league rival Belmont (5-7, 0-5 A-Sun) at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on Thursday. Junior Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay) won her singles match in perfect 6-0, 6-0 fashion.
Galbarini and sophomore Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) beat Whitnie Warren and Tatiana Pozo 8-5 at the top of the doubles lineup while the Breanna Atkinson (Bradenton, Fla.)/Katherine Nowicki (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Katherine St. Clair (Palm Beach, Fla.) and Shannon Gunning (Boca Raton, Fla.) duos each earned doubles victories as well.
Galbarini was unstoppable in her #1 singles match against Warren, blanking her Bruin foe in each set. Gunning and junior Natalie Gorham (Miami, Fla.) also each earned a 6-0 set win in straight-set victories. Atkinson and Nowicki won in straight sets and sophomore Jacqueline Faulk (Port Charlotte, Fla.) finished off the match with a three-set win at #5 singles over Belmont's Lindsay Bennett.
Stetson will try to stay hot in league matches Saturday morning when it hosts Lipscomb at 10 a.m. The Hatters and Bisons will also meet in men's tennis at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center that afternoon at 2 p.m.
