Crystal River, Fla. ? The Stetson women's golf team improved by one stroke on its second round score with a 21 over par 309 in the final round of the Cincinnati Spring Invitational on Saturday, using its steady play to move up into third place in the final standings.  Freshman Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) and senior Christine Fraser (Kingston, Ont.) each tied for sixth place to lead the Hatters.

Cate finished with a five over par 77 today at Plantation Golf Resort to finish in a sixth place tie with Fraser and three other golfers at +14, seven strokes behind medalist Praewnapa Phol-uayporn of Florida Atlantic.  Fraser shot 78 in Round 3.  Also scoring for Stetson on Saturday were juniors Lauren Darnell (Gainesville, Ga.) and Danielle Jackson (Seminole, Fla.), each of whom shot 77 as well.  Jackson carded 75-80-77 and ended up tied for 13^th at +16 while Darnell tallied 77-80-77 and tied for 16^th at +18.

Sophomore Alex Banham (Birmingham, England) ended up with rounds of 85-86-87 and tied for 76^th place.  Freshman T.J. Adipietro (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) competed as an individual and turned in rounds of 78-86-86 to finish alone in 60^th place.

Baylor, ranked 56^th nationally in the GolfWeek.com standings, won the tournament at +54 for the 54-hole event, three shots better than #75 USF.  The Hatters are ranked 92^nd nationally and came in with a +62 final score.  Host Cincinnati finished fourth at +73, followed by Florida Atlantic (+78), Houston Baptist (+95), Embry-Riddle (+97), Youngstown State (+98), Florida Gulf Coast (+100), Marshall (+102), Jacksonville (+108), Cincinnati “B” (+109), UAB (+115), Rutgers (+118), Ohio (+121), Eckerd (+152) and Dartmouth (+156).

The Hatters are off until April 13, when the season-defining Atlantic Sun Conference Championship begins at their home course, Victoria Hills Country Club in DeLand.  Stetson University Sports Information will provide live scoring of the A-Sun Championship at www.GolfStatResults.com.
