Macon, Ga. ? Five Hatters won singles and doubles matches to lead the Stetson women's tennis team (10-5, 5-1 A-Sun) to a 6-1 win over host Mercer (3-14, 0-7 A-Sun) on Sunday at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Full results did not become available until late Monday morning.
Stetson picked up all five of its singles wins in straight sets and no winning Hatter dropped more than four total games. Juniors Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Breanna Atkinson (Bradenton, Fla.) were nearly perfect, winning 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1 respectively. Also winning in singles for Stetson were junior Katherine Nowicki (Jacksonville, Fla.), sophomore Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) and freshman Shannon Gunning (Boca Raton, Fla.)
Prior to the singles matches, three Hatter duos cruised to easy wins over the Bears in doubles action. Galbarini and Purushotham won 8-2 at #1 doubles, Atkinson and Nowicki won 8-1 at the #2 slot and Gunning won at the third slot with junior Natalie Gorham (Miami, Fla.) by an 8-4 score.
Stetson concludes its two-match Peach State swing today at Kennesaw State. The match begins at 1 p.m.
