DeLand, Fla. ? The Stetson women's tennis team (4-4, 1-1 Atlantic Sun) had its four-match winning streak snapped on Wednesday, falling 5-2 on the road at A-Sun rival UNF. The Lady Ospreys improved to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Junior Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay) and sophomore Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) were double winners for the Hatters.
Galbarini and Purushotham teamed up to beat Aline Berkenbrock and Raquel Castro 8-6 at #1 singles, but unfortunately for the Hatters they were the only Stetson duo to win in the first segment of the match, causing the doubles point to fall to UNF. The duo also earned Stetson's only singles wins when Galbarini swept Berkenbrock 6-4, 6-1 in the #1 slot and Purushotham stopped Nikita van Lierop 6-3, 6-0 in the #3 position.
Both junior Breanna Atkinson (Bradenton, Fla.) and freshman Shannon Gunning (Boca Raton, Fla.) suffered hard-luck three-set defeats to Lady Osprey players.
Stetson remains on the First Coast to face two-time defending A-Sun tournament champions Jacksonville at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
