Hatters Add Formisano and Guenther to Softball Roster

DeLand, Fla. – Stetson University Head Softball Coach Frank Griffin has added two more freshmen to the 2010 roster, including a local Volusia County product.  Tara Formisano (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Lindsey Guenther (Debary, Fla.) are the third and fourth newcomers to join the Hatters this year.

Formisano primarily played catcher at Ridgefield High School in her hometown, but may also see time at first base at the collegiate level.  A two-time first team All-State selection in 2008 and 2009 and four time All-Conference pick, she batted .525 with two home runs and 33 RBI in her senior year with six doubles, three triples and an .830 slugging percentage.  The previous year, the hard-hitting Formisano batted .483 with four homers and slugged .810.  She put up similar statistics in summer travel ball, playing for her father, Angelo, on Fairfield County Fury and Tradition North/South ballclubs.

A highly decorated student, Formisano graduated in the top 10 of her high school class with numerous academic awards in a variety of subjects.  She was also the captain of the RHS cheerleading squad in her scholastic days.  The daughter of Angelo and Sherry Formisano was born April 18, 1991 in Mount Kisco, N.Y. and intends to major in Biology and minor in French.

Guenther, an outfielder, recently completed her scholastic career at nearby Deltona High School, where she helped lead the Wolves to a pair of district championships and a 62-26 record, capturing the 2009 title at Stetson's own Patricia Wilson Field.  Guenther batted .388 or higher all four seasons with a career high mark of .485 in 2008, earning First Team All-Volusia County and First Team All-Conference awards in the process.  She also played two years of soccer at DHS.

The daughter of Brian and Lisa Guenther was born March 27, 1991 in Sanford, Fla. and intends to study physics or engineering at Stetson.

Formisano and Guenther join catcher/infielder Jordan Cleghorn (Ball Ground, Ga.) and pitcher Courtney Gunby (Bishop, Ga.) in the Hatter Class of 2013.  Stetson is looking to improve upon a 23-31 (5-15 Atlantic Sun Conference) mark this coming season.
