DeLand, Fla. - After spending this past summer playing professionally for the Kilsyth Cobras in Australia's SEABL (Level 2), former Stetson standout Tim Lang has been signed to play for the Melbourne Tigers in the NBL (National Basketball League).
The Tigers are the oldest and most respected team in Australia. Tied with two other teams, the Tigers have the most championships in the NBL with four.
"I could not be happier for Tim. He definitely put in the work and deserves the opportunity", said Stetson Head Coach Derek Waugh. "The Melbourne Tigers are like the Celtics of the NBL in Australia."
Lang, a 6-10 center/forward from Victoria, Australia parlayed his excellent career at Stetson into a budding pro career in his homeland. Since June he has averaged 11.2 points and 6.9 rebounds in 18 games with the Cobras.
"It has always been a goal of mine to play in the NBL and to be able to play in my home town Melbourne is a fantastic opportunity", said Lang. "They are a great bunch of guys, easy to get along with and they have been great helping me adjust."
Last year Lang played in all 30 games as a Stetson senior averaging 6.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocked shots per game. He was fifth in the Atlantic Sun Conference in blocked shots with 35 and finished his Stetson career with a total of 81 blocked shots placing him seventh all-time for the Hatters.
