Hermosa Boots Hatters Into A-Sun Semis

Jacksonville, Fla. - Junior defender Alexis Hermosa (Orlando, Fla.) scored off a free kick with just 70 seconds remaining in regulation to vault the sixth-seeded Stetson women's soccer team (8-10-1) to a 1-0 road win over third-seeded North Florida (7-11-0) in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships.  The win sends the Hatters into the semifinals, where they will face second-seeded Mercer next Thursday on the campus of Jacksonville University.

Hermosa's third goal of the season came after an Osprey foul just outside the penalty box; she beat UNF goalkeeper Megan Dorsey on what was just Stetson's second shot on goal of the match.  Stetson senior goalkeeper Andrea Garavaglia (Webster Groves, Mo.) made five saves to record the shutout, her third of the season.  UNF out-shot Stetson 9-5 in the match.

The Hatters advance to the A-Sun semifinals for the second year in a row and the fifth time in the last eight seasons under Head Coach Julie Orlowski.  Stetson will take on long-time rival Mercer in a postseason match for the first time; the Hatters defeated the Bears 5-1 at the Stetson Soccer Complex on October 3.

The semifinals will be Thursday, November 4 at top-seeded Jacksonville; the Dolphins will meet fourth-seeded Kennesaw State in the other semifinal.  The Owls survived a scoreless tie and a penalty kick shootout to advance over fifth-seeded ETSU tonight.  The A-Sun championship match is Saturday, November 6 at JU.
