Ryder Earns A-Sun Second Team Honors

Stetson Finishes 10th at Kiawah Island

Kiawah Island, S.C. - The Stetson men's golf team concluded the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate on Tuesday, finishing in 10th place in the 14-team field at 83 over par for 54 holes.  Junior Sam Ryder (Longwood, Fla.) finished strong with an even par 72 and led the Stetson contingent at 18 over par overall for the tournament.

Sophomore Micah Jacobsen (Fernandina Beach, Fla.) shot 79 on Tuesday at Turtle Point Golf Club with freshman Matt Lawrence (Naples, Fla.) contributing a personal event-low 80.  Junior Andrew Schiano (Orlando, Fla.) and senior Gabe Costa (Tequesta, Fla.) struggled to final round totals of 85 and 86, respectively.

Longwood's Michael Young finished at even par 216 to claim the individual title by two shots over David Mills of Indiana and Matt Moot of Campbell.  Ryder tied for 37th place, 18 strokes behind the winner.

Nationally 29th-ranked Indiana cruised to a 13 over par 877 team score and a 14-stroke win over Campbell in the team competition; College of Charleston finished a distant third at 43 over par.  Longwood (+48), Towson (+58), host Charleston Southern (+60), South Carolina (+64), George Washington (+72) and Presbyterian (+73) were the other teams finishing ahead of the +83 Hatters; Western Kentucky (+90), Butler (+93), Western Illinois (+104) and Bethune-Cookman (+114) rounded out the field.

The Hatters wrap up the fall season Nov. 8-9 at home for the annual Stetson/Central Florida Sports Comission (CFSC) Invitational.  The field at Victoria Hills Golf Club will include Stetson, Bethune-Cookman, Florida Gulf Coast, Lipscomb, USC Upstate, Florida Atlantic, Jacksonville State, Murray State and Florida A&M.
