Tallahassee, Fla. - 23rd-ranked host Florida State (11-3) overwhelmed the Stetson women's basketball team (5-6) with hot shooting and tough defense Thursday evening at the Donald L. Tucker Events Center, defeating the Hatters 92-44. Sophomore guard Victoria McGowan (Inkster, Mich.) led Stetson with 14 points.
FSU came away with 12 steals in the contest and held Stetson to shooting just 15.2 percent (5-33) in the second half to turn a 49-29 halftime lead into a 48-point final margin of victory. The Seminoles shot 57.1 percent from the floor (36-63) and out-rebounded the Hatters 47-32.
McGowan added five rebounds, three steals and two assists to her team-high 14 points; she was joined in double figures by freshman forward Sasha Sims (Fayetteville, Ga.). The reigning A-Sun Newcomer of the Week scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds. Sophomore guard Dashauna Truss (Jacksonville, Fla.) pulled down a season-high six rebounds to lead the Hatters on the glass.
Cierra Bravard (16 points, seven rebounds) led three Seminoles in double figures with Courtney Ward (14 points, six assists) and Chasity Clayton (14 points, five assists) also putting up strong stat lines for FSU.
The Hatters will go up against Atlantic Sun Conference opposition for the remainder of the regular season, starting Monday, January 3 when Lipscomb comes to the Edmunds Center for a 5 p.m. tip-off.
