DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson women's tennis team improved to 5-2 on the season with a 6-1 rout of local NAIA power Embry-Riddle at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on Saturday. Three Hatters were double winners and freshman Jen Miller (Tampa, Fla.) recorded a doubles win in her first career college match.
The Hatters picked up three doubles victories by 8-4, 8-4 and 8-5 scores. Miller teamed with senior Natalie Gorham (Miami, Fla.) to defeat Caroline Nilsson and Sara Abraul 8-4 at the #3 position.
Freshman Carolina de los Santos (Montevideo, Uruguay) recorded a perfect 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Nilsson at #3 singles; she along with seniors Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Breanna Atkinson (Bradenton, Fla.) won in singles and doubles for Stetson. Junior Jackie Faulk (Fort Myers, Fla.) also won a singles match in her first action of the spring season.
Stetson is back in action next Saturday, February 27 when it hosts Florida A&M at 11 a.m. at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
