Hatters Sweep Saint Leo and Siena

Men's Tennis Stetson University

Hatters Sweep Saint Leo and Siena

DeLand, Fla. - With spring training getting started, Head Coach Pierre Pilote and the Stetson men's tennis team (6-2) decided to engage in a little Grapefruit League-style split-squad action of their own, beating Saint Leo 7-0 on the road Saturday morning before returning to DeLand to sweep Siena 7-0 in the evening.

The Hatters dominated throughout both matches, winning every set in singles.  Against Saint Leo, four of six singles matches ended in perfect 6-0, 6-0 clean sheets with only five total games dropped to the Lions in singles and four in doubles.  Two more 6-0, 6-0 blankings followed against Siena with straight set singles wins for all involved and just six total doubles games lost.  Senior Mark Mestan (Cologne, Germany) won all but one game in four sets of singles action on Saturday.

Stetson is off until March 2 when another doubleheader is on tap; the Hatters host NCAA Division II foe Lewis at 9 a.m. and then travel to St. Petersburg to take on Saint Leo's Sunshine State Conference rival Eckerd at 3 p.m.
