DeLand, Fla. - Another outstanding week in the circle made Stetson senior Amanda Lindsey (Byhalia, Miss.) the first player in nearly two years to win consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week awards, the league office announced Monday. Lindsey went 4-1 with a 0.62 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 33.2 innings, tying the Stetson career strikeout record in the process.
Lindsey is the first A-Sun hurler to win back-to-back weekly honors since Kennesaw State's Brittany Matthews in March 2008. She is the first Hatter double winner since Kelli Lightner (April 23/30, 2001); this is Lindsey's third career A-Sun Pitcher of the Week award overall.
Lindsey began the week by pitching the Hatters to a 7-1 win at UCF on Tuesday, Stetson's first victory over the Knights since 2007. Returning to Patricia Wilson Field for the Hatter Invitational this weekend, she starred in front of facility-record crowds all weekend with three dominating wins over Rhode Island and received her only loss via a single unearned run against nationally eighth-ranked Alabama, a 2009 Women's College World Series semifinalist. Lindsey struck out eight Crimson Tide batters in that game.
Her final strikeout of the weekend, a swinging sitdown of Rhode Island pinch hitter Jhokania de los Santos on Sunday, was the 624th of her career and tied the record set just last season by former teammate Erica Demers '09. At the plate, Lindsey collected four hits and two RBI, including her first double of the season Friday night against 14th-ranked Ohio State. Mercer freshman Sara Santana took the A-Sun Player of the Week award.
The Hatters went 4-2 on the week, beating URI three times and UCF once with losses only to the aforementioned national powers Alabama and Ohio State. Stetson is back in action Friday at Patricia Wilson Field to begin the Hatter Classic at 4 p.m. against Boston College. Albany and Bethune-Cookman are also in the field.
