DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson women's tennis team (2-1) won a home match for the second day in a row after cruising to a 6-1 victory over Georgia Southern (1-1) at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. Five Hatters were double winners, including freshman Carolina de los Santos (Montevideo, Uruguay), who recorded a perfect 6-0, 6-0 singles victory.
De los Santos and senior Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay), the nation's 60th-ranked doubles duo, helped the Hatters take the doubles point with an 8-4 win over Ali Beavers and Natalie Maffett. The freshman then rolled past Melanie Rolle in singles without dropping a single game. All five of Stetson's singles victories came in straight sets; senior Breanna Atkinson (Bradenton, Fla.) beat Kristi Kegerreis 6-2, 6-2 at #4 singles while junior Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India) was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Maffett at the #2 slot.
The Hatters are back in action Saturday, February 13 at former conference rival Florida Atlantic. The match begins at 2 p.m. in Boca Raton, Fla.
