Tennis Teams Sweep Campbell to Wrap Up Conference Play, Clinch A-Sun Seeding

Buies Creek, N.C. - The Stetson men's and women's tennis teams each picked up road wins at Atlantic Sun Conference rival Campbell on Friday to conclude the conference season.  The men won 6-1 and ended their regular season 19-4 overall and 8-2 in the A-Sun while the women earned a 5-2 victory and moved to 16-5, 8-2 A-Sun.  The men's team also clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament while the women's squad locked up the #3 seed in their side of the draw.

Sophomores Cesare Gallo (Portogruaro, Italy) and Maksim Levanovich (Minsk, Belarus), along with junior Alex Hackett (Surrey, England) were double winners for the Stetson men against the Camels.  Levanovich gutted out a three-set tiebreaker win over A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year Davy Sum at the #1 position to conclude the proceedings while Gallo, Hackett, freshman Didrik Berg (Oslo, Norway) and junior Chris Swanteson (Vaxjo, Sweden) all won in straight sets.

The Hatter women took all three doubles matches en route to a 1-0 lead and then picked up wins in four of the six singles matches to complete a sweep of their two-match road trip to the Carolinas.  Senior Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay), junior Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India), sophomore Shannon Gunning (Boca Raton, Fla.) and freshman Jen Miller (Tampa, Fla.) earned Stetson's singles wins; Galbarini and Purushotham were double winners.

The men's regular season is over; the Hatters will return to action Friday, April 16 in the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships against an opponent to be determined.  The women play at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7 at Bethune-Cookman and visit UCF at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 9 as they shoot for the program record for dual match victories (17).  The women's team will begin the A-Sun Championships Thursday, April 15 in the quarterfinals against the #6 seed, which has not yet been determined.

Stetson will host the 2010 Atlantic Sun Conference championships at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on campus.
