Daytona Beach, Fla. - The Stetson women's tennis team (17-5) ran its winning streak to eight on Wednesday with a 6-1 win at City Island Tennis Center against Volusia County rival Bethune-Cookman. Three Hatters were double winners, including the A-Sun Player of the Week, junior Unnati Purushotham (Hyderabad, India).
Stetson's 57th-ranked doubles duo of senior Valentina Galbarini (Montevideo, Uruguay) and freshman Carolina de los Santos (Montevideo, Uruguay) kept rolling, defeating Katerina Szaboova and Stacey Lopez 8-4. Purushotham and sophomore Shannon Gunning (Boca Raton, Fla.) improved to 18-2 on the season, cruising past Shereen Peterson-Paul and Eva Hankova 8-2.
Gunning, de los Santos and senior Breanna Atkinson (Bradenton, Fla.) all earned straight-set wins to close out the match; Purushotham and freshman Jen Miller (Tampa, Fla.) were singles winners as well.
The Hatters conclude the regular season Friday in Orlando against UCF; the match begins at 4 p.m.
