Daytona Beach, Fla. - Continued inclement weather and unplayable golf course conditions called off the remainder of the Xavier Invitational on Sunday at LPGA International. Friday's 18-hole results will stand as final, meaning the Hatters finished fourth of 13 teams at 19 over par 307 and senior Lauren Cate (St. Augustine, Fla.) is credited with for a tie for third place after her 73 in the first round.
What was supposed to be a regulation 54-hole event had its second and third rounds curtailed by the ugly weather that affected much of the state of Florida this weekend. Stetson has now had three of its six scheduled tournament rounds this fall cancelled by rain or wind.
Final results leave Cate tied for third at one over par 73, sophomore Sammi Smith (Louisville, Ky.) tied for 13th at four over par 76, junior Alexandria Buelow tied for 22nd at six over par 78, sophomore Claudia Redinger (Durban, South Africa) tied for 33rd at eight over par 80 and sophomore Ryan Ashburn (Largo, Fla.) tied for 56th at 13 over par 85. Playing as an individual, sophomore Jenna Hoecker (Rochester, N.Y.) tied for 39th at nine over par 81.
Cate tied for third with Christine Cash of host Xavier as well as Mercer's Mary Alice Murphy, three strokes behind medalist Amy Anderson of North Dakota State. Campbell's Michelle Koh took second at even par.
Campbell won the tournament with its 10 over par 298 on Friday, six strokes ahead of runner-up Louisiana-Monroe and eight ahead of third place Xavier. Stetson came in at +19, one stroke behind the Musketeers in fourth place. The Hatters beat out Mercer (+22), Daytona State (+22), Lamar (+23), Samford (+29), North Dakota State (+30), McNeese State (+32), Jacksonville (+38), South Dakota State (+47) and Florida Atlantic (+48).
Stetson will next compete at the Wendy's Invitational in North Charleston, S.C. October 17-18.
