Stetson Drops Hatter Invitational Finale to Kansas

DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson softball team dropped to 4-5 on the season with an 8-0 loss in six innings to undefeated Kansas (10-0) in the championship game of the Hatter Invitational on Sunday at Patricia Wilson Field.  Junior shortstop Chelsey Trotto (Lantana, Fla.) went three for three with a double and a stolen base to lead the Hatters.

Trotto accounted for half of Stetson's six hits herself, furthering her team lead in doubles (three) and stolen bases (five).  On the weekend, she hit .556 (10-18) with five runs scored, two doubles, a triple, four RBI and five stolen bases.

Kansas, which belted 15 home runs in its five games this weekend, used longballs from second baseman Mariah Montgomery, designated player Liz Kocon and catcher Brittany Hile to break open what was a scoreless game in the bottom of the third inning.  The Jayhawks plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early via the eight run-rule.

Stetson returns to action at 4 p.m. Friday in the Hatter Classic at Patricia Wilson Field against Valparaiso.  The Hatters also take on Bethune-Cookman that evening at 6:30 p.m.; Charleston Southern is the final team in the field next weekend.  Live Stats and Hatter Vision will be available at GoHatters.com.
